Kentucky Derby: NB start time is 8.24 am Sunday morning [May 3rd], Sydney time. You can bet on TAB Fixed Odds. It is a field of 20, $4 the field. I like the 2nd favorite, number 15 DUNKIRK, which was an excellent 2nd in the Florida Derby 5 weeks ago, and has a good jockey Edgar Prado. I also like #19 DESERT PARTY the Godolphin horse that was shock 2nd in Dubai derby recently, and New York's leading jockey Raoul Dominguez replaces Frankie Dettori for the ride (word of caution: Godolphin horses are 0-5 in Kentucky Derbies, a bit like their Melbourne Cup record). Others with good form include #2 Musket Man, #3 Mr Hot Stuff, #5 Hold Me Back, #11 Chocolate Candy (also has a great jockey), #17 Summer Bird ($51), and #20 Flying Private. I don't like the current favorite here #6 Fresian Fire - hasn't raced for almost 2 months though working well this week, or the current TAB Fixed Odds fav #13 I Want Revenge, which has been racing in NY and is going for the hat trick. Result: 50/1 Mine That Bird won on a very heavy track

  1. Hi Paul,
Just checking in to see your round 8 tips. My art director got a perfect score last week. Though she is Shire, her parents are dyed in wool bunnies supporters and so is she as that's what she grew up with, ie if she could be bothered. Only reason she did so well was she got advice from her husband who is a Manly tragic. Which is truly tragic. He even tipped them last week without Brett Stewart.

  2. Hi Paul,
decided to go for bunnies as they have a 6.5 start. Would you have? good to see you're not letting emotion get in the way of your tipping.
