Great to see the Bunnies register their first win for 2010, even if against Sharks (now 0-13 going back to last year) last monday night.
its a beautiful spring day here tomorrow in NYC, and as the little woman is Downunder playing grandma I will be schleping out to Aqueduct with my new racing buddy Steve for the big card:
1. Wood Memorial (3swp-1/1800), one of the key lead ups to the KY Derby. My "lay" Eskandereya is running in it so of course I'm go around him and like Awesome Act the UK import that killed em in the Gotham (& interesting story about his trainer in the paper) to come from the rear or even Schoolyard Dreams getting the box seat from Raoul (Dominguez). Some top US jockeys are flying in for the day (Johnny Velazquez, Cal Borel, Leparoux)[res: 3rd - eskandereya won; 2:0-1]
2. Carter (3oh-I/1400). the 3yo sprint, hard to go past the favorite Munnings (only paying $1.80 in the Daily Racing Form this morning): should stalk the likely leader Digger and prove too good. [3rd: 3:0-2]
In the other feature races at the "Big A", in the Bayshore I like Hurricane Ike from castaneda and Raynick's Jet (bypassing Eightyfiveinafifity)[2nd; 85ina50 won; 4:0-3] In the Excelsior, i'll being going for the fav Nite Light over National Pride and Seniors Pride [result 2nd!; 5:0-4]
Back home in the Slipper, i'm tipping More Strawberries (e/w, $16 in the Sportsman) for Gai/Singo. As Gai says on her website : "Just speaking to Singo, he is so excited about tomorrow. Never before has he had three runners in three Group 1 races. Never before has he had a horse win five straight with the lady trainer and he added, "Gai, you and I have a strike rate of 40% stakes-winners to runners together". What a partnership!" Ya gotta love it! seriously, although 0-2 and drawn in 14 of 15, she's by More Than Ready, i note the blinkers are off so I see Ollie dropping her out the back, keeping out of trouble and with plenty of speed on upfront she'll be coming around the field on the turn and swooping down the center of the track in the better going to at least get into the money. and speaking of gai of course Theseo will give his all in the BMW
