2-2 last weekend, and although today is LaComte Stks day at the Fairgrounds on the Derby trail, the race of the day is the 60th running of the Palos Verdes Stks (4-up swa-2/6f), around one turn on the main track at Santa Anita. Snowing here in NYC (finally) but in SoCal it's overcast with rain forecast and a high of 64 (17 deg C). From a strong field of 8, my selection is #2 Amazombie, which I backed on my mega day at CD on BC Day last November when it saluted at 8-1; and I am sticking with him today, although only 9-5 in the ML this time. Amazombie is a 6yo bay gelding, in the black and white colors trained by Bill Spawr and coming out of gate #2 ridden by Mike Smith. Has no wet form but should get the run of the race settling in behind the lead expected to be set up by #3,5 & 7. my full selection is 2-3-8 (#8 won last year) with 7 and also 5 for exoctics, but leaving out #4. Post time is 7.07pm ET
Result: 5-3-4 (#2 scratched)
Sunday is the $150K Gr 2 La Canada (pronounced like pinata) Stks for 4m over 1700 on the SA main track, and my selection is 3-7-8-1. Not a strong race and a bit of a lottery. #3 Big Tiz (tr. M. Glatt,Corey Nakatini up, blue & white checks) 2nd up after a long lay off, but Gr1 placed at 2 and likes distance.
Result 6-4-8 (scr #3&5)
5:2-2-0 0.4; +5.8u; out $10.00; in: $13.8=$2.76 per $2.00)
