RTKyD12: Florida Derby

Today is the $1M Florida Derby, which has been an excellent guide in the recent past to the KY Derby, now just a little over a month away (e.g. Shackleford ran 2nd last year then 4th derby & won Preakness). Over 1&1/8mi on the main track. I believe the weather is OK down there after some rain earlier in the week. I have been on fire lately, top selection having a 40% win rate after 20 races and showing a healthy 60% profit at level stakes. My selection in the Fla. Derby is going with the ML, 6-8-2-3. hard to go past the 6-5 chalk #6 Union Rags for dale Romans, Leparoux up, from 2nd fav #8 El Padrino. From DRF: #6 Union Rags, four-length winner of the Fountain of Youth last month and current favorite for the Kentucky Derby, is the imposing force #2 El Padrino will be up against on Saturday in the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. “Anyone who has seen [Union Rags] run or train has to be impressed. It’s a tall order,” said Todd Pletcher, who trains El Padrino. “But our horse is doing well."

#21:3-9-6 (21:8-3-3; 0.38; out 21, in 31.65; +55%)
