Today sees the 10th running of the Sunland Derby at Sunland Park (Sun), New Mexico, just 10 minutes west of El Paso TX. Over 1&1/8 mi on the dirt. KYD winner Mine That Bird ran 4th in 2009, while Astrology (2nd, Preakness) and Ruler On Ice (first, Belmont)were ITM last year.
A field of 8, stronger than yesterday's Spiral Stks, and my selection is 6-1-4-2. #6 Daddynosebest (Leparoux/Asmussen) comes off the win in the El Camino Real Derby at GG last month, although Handsome Mike and Russian Greek failed to frank that form yesterday. #1 Castaway won the SW @ OP (Bejerano/Baffert),#2 Ender Knievel comes off a MSW @ GP for Pletcher (John V up) and #4 Isn't he Clever won the Borderland Drby here l/s. 1,2,4 should all go forward with 6 stalking. Forecast is partly cloudy and a warm 82 degrees.
