Derby trial

A week out from the "Run to the Roses" for 2014 and a quiet day nationwide with only 3 Gr stakes on offer. None of this year's field will be lining up here next Saturday, but in the Gr 3 Derby Trial over a mile at CD today. I had Sunland Derby winner #2 Chitu (Rosario/Baffert) on top, but he is scratched. It's now a weaker race of average pace and my new selection is its stablemate #1 Bayern (Napravnik up) which i have marked at 9/4. It should contest the lead from #8 Laddie's Boy. if he gets duelled into the ground this could suit #6 Embellishing Bob (5/2) sitting off the pace or the closer #10 Myositis Dan. Bayern led under pressure from 6&8, and 10 closed hard and it was a 3 way photo with the numbers 1-6-10 but then Bayern had his number taken down as he bore out in the stretch. Bayern started at 4/5 whereas 'Bob' was the nice overlay of 9/2.. Thanks and see you next week for the big one.
